MSEA conference 2011

MSEA conference 2011

Getting involved with your local teachers union is the best decision you can make as an educator! Also get involved with your states association too. This is my first weekend at a MSEA (Maryland State Education Association) conference and I can already tell you it won’t be my last!! 🙂 I am learning so much about the politics in education! 🙂

Make sure to check out the film Race to Nowhere by director Vicki Abeles!

Update: 6/27/15 – I am reflecting on this post from 4 years past and wanted to let everyone know that I still agree with this statement. I have been elected to serve as a State delegate to 5 MSEA Representative Assemblies and I have also been elected to be a MD State Delegate for the National Education Association (NEA) for 2 years (Atlanta and Orlando) and then a local Delegate for one RA (Denver). It was been a great experience and I hope to say I will be involved in my union at the local, state, and national level for a long time.

Locally for Frederick County Teachers Association (FCTA), I have served as the Leadership Development Committee Chair for 3 years, I help plan Read Across America events for my entire school district and I also plan a Teacher’s retreat to Annapolis for SPARKS!!

If you want to learn more about how to get involved in your local union, send me an email, I would be happy to help!
