Read Across America Month is almost here!

Need a way to get your students excited about reading each day at school or at night for homework? Check out these Readie 500 racetrack charts to help students get motivated to read a little extra everyday.

I use them in my classroom to help get the students excited about reading each night they go home. I ask local businesses to help sponsor a month so that I can offer a prize at the end of the race. I place all the entry forms into a (pirate) hat and pick one or two winners. The students love coupons/gift cards to local restaurants (small amounts), water bottles, books, coloring books, school supplies (fun) and much more.

This year, I am trying this with my entire school district (Middle school). I got funding for three $25 gift cards and will be inviting Middle schoolers to send me their entry forms. I am excited to see how many students we can get excited about reading!

In the packet there are a few different options available. You can choose from a couple different racetracks; one with 20 spaces of 25 minutes each and one with 25 spaces of 20 minutes of reading. Have the students track their progress themselves by coloring the blocks in or have them get an adult to sign for them.
